Jefferson Nickels are a series of five-cent coins from the United States that were first minted in 1938 to honor Thomas Jefferson. The 2011 Jefferson Nickel features a portrait of Jefferson on the obverse and Monticello, his Virginia home, on the reverse. It is part of the ongoing design that includes both the standard nickel and various commemorative issues. The 2011 release produced standard circulation coins as well as coins for collectors, including special mint sets.
