Kennedy Half Dollars are a series of coins issued by the United States Mint, first struck in 1964 to honor President John F. Kennedy following his assassination. The 1998 Kennedy Half Dollar was minted in both Philadelphia and Denver, with the Denver mint mark appearing on the reverse of the coin. Typically composed of 90% silver and 10% copper in earlier years, later issues are made from a copper-nickel alloy. The 50 cent denomination holds collectible value, especially in uncirculated or proof conditions.
