The Feuchtwanger Coinage of 1837 consists of a series of pattern coins designed by German immigrant Matthias Feuchtwanger, intended to address the coinage shortages in the United States. The 3-cent coin, commonly referred to as the 3C, is notable for its unusual denomination. Made primarily of an alloy of copper, nickel, and zinc, these coins were not officially adopted but serve as an important part of U.S. numismatic history and represent an early attempt to introduce small denomination coins into circulation.
