1872 - Coins

The Silver Three Cents Type 1 coins were issued by the United States Mint from 1851 to 1873. The 1872 issue is part of this series, which features a design by Chief Engraver James B. Longacre. Type 1 coins have a distinctive obverse depicting a shield with a star above, symbolizing the Union. The reverse features a simple design with the denomination "3 Cents" surrounded by an ornate border. Due to their small size and relatively low mintage, these coins are sought after by collectors.
