Washington Quarters are a series of coins that feature George Washington on the obverse and an eagle on the reverse. First minted in 1932 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Washington's birth, they are 25-cent coins produced by the United States Mint. The 1940 Washington Quarter is part of the 1932-1964 series, struck in 90% silver until 1965, and is collected for its numismatic value as well as its silver content. The 1940 issue is relatively common, making it less valuable than rarer dates in the series but still sought after by collectors.
