The Silver Ike, officially designated as the Eisenhower dollar, was issued by the United States Mint from 1971 to 1978. The 1971 version of this coin was struck in copper-nickel and features a profile of President Dwight D. Eisenhower on the obverse, with an image of the Apollo 11 mission insignia on the reverse. While the circulating coins were made primarily of copper-nickel, certain proofs and uncirculated versions were minted with 40% silver, making them more desirable to collectors. Collectors often seek these coins for their historical significance as well as their silver content, particularly those produced in the early years of the series.
