Gobrecht Dollars are a series of silver dollars struck by the United States Mint, specifically produced in 1836, 1837, and 1838. They were designed by the engraver Christian Gobrecht and represent one of the earliest attempts to create a standard dollar coin in the United States. The 1838 Gobrecht Dollar is particularly notable, as it is the last year of issue for this type and features a seated Liberty design on the obverse and a flying eagle on the reverse. These coins are highly sought after by collectors due to their historical significance and limited production, with only a few thousand pieces minted.
