The Braided Hair Half Cents were produced by the United States Mint from 1839 to 1857 and represent the last design of half cent coins. The type features a portrait of Liberty with braided hair on the obverse, while the reverse depicts a simple wreath surrounding the denomination. These coins were struck in copper and have a diameter of about 23 mm. Due to their limited mintage and the decline of the half cent denomination, Braided Hair Half Cents are sought after by collectors, particularly in high grades.
