1922 G$1 Grant Memorial without Star

Coin / United States of America / 1922 / Philadelphia / Gold Commemoratives / G$1

The 1922 Grant Without Star gold commemorative dollar was made alongside the popular silver half dollar honoring former Civil War general and president Ulysses S. Grant. The coin, designed by Laura Gardin Fraser, honors the 100th anniversary of Grant's birth and was struck in two varieties: one bearing a star and the other without (similar to the Grant half dollars).

Unlike the halves, of which the star variety is much scarcer than that without the star, the With Star and Without Star gold dollars saw equal distribution. The Grant Without Star gold dollar is about as common today as its Without Star counterpart and is usually encountered in the grades of MS64-66, with MS67s significantly scarcer.
