1878-S $1 Specimen Strike VAM-58

Coin / United States of America / 1878 / San Francisco / Morgan Dollars / $1 (One Dollar)

While mintage reports indicate 750 examples of the 1878 8TF Morgan dollar were struck, market availability suggests it may have been a much lower number. Survival estimates approximate perhaps 400 survivors, most grading PR60-64. There is a small handful of proofs grading PR65 or better, with a very rare few up to MS67. Cameos constitute perhaps half of the known survivors, with any deep cameos being extremely rare and worthy of strong premiums.
