With a mintage of a mere 950 coins, the 1872 Proof Three Cent Nickel is common throughout all grades except for the absolute finest gems, as most of the coins are still in existence. It can be difficult, but not impossible, to find examples with attractive color and strong strike. Cameos garner a slight premium with an the increase in rarity and desirability for deep cameos.
