1861-O 50c

Coin / United States of America / 1861 / Philadelphia / Liberty Seated Half Dollars / 50c

Special strike with mirrored surfaces and sharp rims similar to a proof coin, probably created for presentation purposes. Given that this coins mintage coincides with the first strikes of the Confederacy it is likely that the handful of presentation strikes were created in conjunction with the new secessionist government.
