1854 G$20 Kellogg & Co. Short Arrows, K-1

Coin / United States of America / 1854 / San Francisco / Kellogg & Co. / G$20

Kellogg & Company’s 1854 $20s appear to have been struck using left over dies from Curtis & Perry’s issue of 1853-dated Moffat $20s. Multiple positional varieties exist. All K-1s use a short arrows reverse die either matching or similar to that used to strike the Moffat & Company pieces. Somewhere between 180 and 220 examples exist for all 1854-dated varieties. The finest specimen is a gem uncirculated example, and original, attractive mint state examples would qualify for the condition census. 30 examples were recovered from the S.S. Central America. A unique specimen striking Kagin-1 exists that traces its provenance back to Augustus Humbert.
