(1861) G$2 1/2 Parsons & Co. K-1

Coin / United States of America / 1861 / Tarryall Mines, Colorado / John Parsons & Company / G$2 1/2

The undated Parsons & Company quarter eagles depict a quartz stamping mill on the obverse, possibly based upon the Gates & Company machinery owned by the Quincy Mining Company, in which Parsons was a partner. The reverse depicts a federal eagle, the legend PIKE’S PEAK GOLD, and the denomination. Of the six known pieces, only one example — an original choice AU that was part of the Garrett collection — remains in private hands.
